Heat wave

Perth is day 3 into a 4-day heat wave. It is unbearably warm! We’ve been doing our best to stay cool. Watching movies indoors in the air-conditioning, swimming in the paddling pool, eating endless icy poles and today – digging for ice treasures!

Push-Up Queen

IMG_8078-2

Miss Mahli is 4 months old! She is growing up so fast. Already rolling from back to tummy and now exercising with push-ups, such a clever little lady. She is a very talkative girl, babbles and chatters away. She kind of has to be I guess, being the youngest of 4 kids!

As for her growth, as you can see from her michelin-like arms, she is off the charts but that just makes her extra cuddly!

Belle the Ballerina

belle ballet

Just popping in quickly to show you my new little ballerina. Belle was so gorgeous to watch at her first ballet lesson today and she is really good too! She must have picked up a thing or two watching her big sister last year!

Birthday snaps and reflections

We celebrated my birthday this weekend. I spent a glorious couple of hours shopping alone in the morning and the afternoon and evening was spent in one of my favourite spots in Fremantle. We ate fish and chips, played on the beach had ice cream and played on the playground (well the kids, not I!). It was lovely.

I have been reflecting and pondering (same thing perhaps?) on where I want this blog to go this year. It started off in 2006 as a means to share with our family what we were up to. To show pictures of our growing family, seeing as how both sets of our parents live in the country. Since then Facebook has become the ‘in’ thing and my family at least, all have accounts so can keep up to date on our lives through that means. I also speak to my Mum daily so she is fully integrated into what’s going on. Without having to read it. I realise there are a few people who read this who don't use social media like Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date on what’s going on in our lives. For the past year at least I have been writing for them. The whole one or two people :)

I have never been a writer. I am too scientifically minded. I like to keep to the facts, or at least what’s happening in our lives in ‘dot point’ format, so much of what is on here is pictures rather than the random thoughts going though my head. I don't spend much of my day thinking about posts I can write about or drafting some for future reference. I know some people who do and that’s just not me. I actually find what I write quite boring, unlike my sister in law, Lou who is fantastic.

The past few week have been c-r-a-z-y busy. And all of my commitments haven’t even started yet. This week  ballet, MOPS and Toddler Jam begin which quite frankly already is overwhelming me with how I’ll keep up with it all. But I want to. I want to be the kind of hands on Mum who does lots for her kids. I don't want to turn the computer on as much. I want to spend the few hours of energy I have in the evening before I crash into bed with my husband. Not in front of the computer (like I am now!). I don’t want to feel the pressure of writing a blog post because the week (or even 2) has flown by and I haven’t done so yet. I know some Mums do it all, but I just can’t keep up!

So, where does this leave me? Do I close up shop? Some days I want to but others not. I think this whole blog thing has been amazing for a diary keepsake of our lives for the past 5 years. There has been things on here I have written that I forgot to write in the kid’s journals. One day I’d love to print all my posts and bind them so the kid’s can read about what Mum (and initially Dad) used to say. And it’s for that reason I am not stopping. But I will be slowing down. I may post once a week/fortnight/month but I won’t let the pressure of it all take over. So that’s where I stand.

So until I return just know I am loving this busy life and soaking in the preciousness of these 4:

My 2 big girls started their pre years this week. Both have had a great few days and can’t wait for it all to begin again next week! Here is a look at Belle’s first day of Pre-Kindy:

She was quite shy at first but had a huge grin on her face by the end. She told me on the way home she wanted to go again tomorrow! Fingers crossed she remembers the fun she had next week!
